Please do not go here. I never post reviews, but feel the need to on this one. These people are the definition of crooks. Tried to take advantage of my wife when she dropped her car there. I was a mechanic in the USCG for 6 years, so I do know about repairs. When we needed something done quickly and I was away, we went here. Big mistake. My wife took the car. When I looked at what they were charging for labor, they charged 2 separate labor fees for replacing the coil and the spark plugs. Multiple hours for each. You have to remove the coil to get to the plug. Should not be separate fees as the time is no different. This was just one of several scams they tried to pull on her. When I called and spoke to a sales guy named Michael (you know you are at the wrong place when they have an actual sales team), he was a sleazy guy, that tried to backtrack when I called him out on why they were charging the separate fees. He knew he was caught. They clearly try to take advantage of women. Please do not take your vehicle here. Take your vehicle to Autograff instead. They are very honest. I have no idea why Steve's is getting all these good reviews. I feel bad for all of these people they have been swindling over the years that have no idea about repairs. Please do not take your vehicle here.

Josh, we've proudly served thousands and thousands of clients in the Salt Lake area for over 40 years. We get mostly 5 star reviews, repeat business, and referrals from our existing clients because of the fact that we are honest, treat our clients like family, and take pride in what we do. It sounds like you and your wife's experience was not what you expected and I'm truly sorry for that. It appears your wife's visit to our shop was nearly a year ago but I'm more than happy to discuss it with you anytime, please call me at 801-694-7936. Richard (Owner)

Steve's auto was fantastic! My van started leaking coolant in the middle of a road trip. They were able to get me in right away and fix the issue plus compression testing etc within a few hours for a very decent price. They also have shuttle service in case you want to go shopping or something while you wait. Highly recommend Steve's! They are life savers.

Anthony, we're so glad we could help and hopefully we made a difficult situation a little easier for you, thank you for your review!

I'm pretty sure they do good work and are honest - I haven't had any problems in that regard. So what is the problem?...I'm not really sure there is a benefit going to them over a stealership. Their hourly rate isn't any better and they are going to charge you whatever Alldata says a job takes whether or not it actually takes that long to do it (just like a dealership). To me, the whole point of an independent shop used to be you were getting a better deal than the inflated rate, "by-the-book" dealership price. So, I'm having a hard time seeing the point of going to them (or any other independent shop) if their pricing isn't going to be any better. A neutral 3 star review seems appropriate

Loomis, price is only one of the many components that make up an automotive service experience. Other factors are convenience, skill level and experience of the mechanics, quality of parts, and warranty just to name a few. All you have to do to lower the price is to change any of these components, for example, you could use lower quality or economy parts, hire inexperienced or novice mechanics, or offer very short-term warranties. We've found over the years that most of our clients prefer a higher quality service and accordingly our goal is to deliver the highest quality service available in the market place for a fair and competitive price. I do appreciate the fact that you took the time to share your honest feelings, thank you!

I have had several negative experiences at Steve’s within the last few months and won’t be returning again. I made an appointment to have my wiper blades replaced and when I showed up to have the work done, they didn’t have the blades needed for my car and the car I drive is on their file. That same day I wanted my oil changed and when I arrived the mechanic who changes oil had gone home and they didn’t notify me. This all took up two hours of my time without getting anything accomplished. My husband came in to have his brakes checked before we went on a road trip and was told they looked good. While on our trip the brakes started squeaking and we had to get the pads replaced at a random place in South Dakota. I’m very disappointed by what Steve’s has turned out to be and won’t recommend them to friends and family.

Elizabeth, that sounds like a pretty long list of complaints. More than 95% of the time we get it right and our clients love us. I have to admit I have no explanation as to why you've had such a hard time with us. We do have a 100% client satisfaction guarantee so please call me at 801-694-7936 and let's discuss it, thank you! - Richard (Owner)

Steve's Automotive absolutely nailed it. My truck wouldn't start when I was trying to go to the airport. I had to Uber to the airport and do all of the coordination with Steve's Automotive from another state, over the phone. I gave them the directions to my truck, they towed it, found out that I needed a new starter and battery cables, and fixed it all so that I could pick it up as soon as I got back into town. They wouldn't work on anything until they got the positive confirmation from me to move forward with the work, so I definitely trust them and would highly recommend them to a friend. Thanks!

David, your recommendation means so much to us, thank you!

I have been a loyal patron of Steve's for about 5 years. They have always been extremely thorough in reviewing and diagnosing problems with my vehicle. They are not the cheapest but they have been very knowledgeable in the past which was why I was so disappointed in my latest experience with them. I brought them my 2010 Land Rover to help fix the air suspension. After a few days they finally diagnosed the problem as a bad air compressor and needed to overnight one from Denver. I approved that and they installed it and apparently it was a bad part that immediately burned out. Strangely, they said they couldn't get another one for two weeks because the nearest one was in Europe. I found that hard to believe and called the dealership downtown to find that they had one sitting on the shelf. I called Steve's to inform them at which time they agreed they had not done their due diligence before reporting to me. They got the part from the dealership and had it installed but then realized that they did not have the proper equipment to reprogram the control module and indicated that I would need to take it to the dealership to have this process completed. I made and appointment for the next Saturday to have this done. After reprogramming the module they found there was a broken circuit between the compressor exhaust valve and the control module and that was the only problem all along. They indicated the compressor was not at fault. I called Toby at Steve's last week to let him know that their technician misdiagnosed the issue on my vehicle and that I had paid them $1400 in parts and labor for a new compressor that I did not even need. There was no offer for reimbursement. I am aware that they put in a lot of labor and investigation that they did not charge me for but in the end they apparently took on a job that they were not qualified to work on ultimately costing me $1400 for a misdiagnosis on their part.

Eric, first of all we greatly appreciate the fact that you have been a loyal patron and we have a 100% client satisfaction guarantee. So, please call me at 801-694-7936 and let's discuss an appropriate resolution. Richard (Owner)
