DO NOT TRUST THESE GUYS! THEY JUST WANT YOUR MONEY. I went into Steve's because my car was "rough starting". I was on the road and wanted it fixed prior to leaving SLC. Steve's did a full diagnosis of everything they could possibly find on the car, and told me I needed a new battery. They replaced the battery, which did not fix the problem. They also said my oil dipstick was dry (it wasn't, I checked), I was low on radiator fluid (I wasn't, I checked), and suggested 5 other repairs that were completely unnecessary. If you want honest service, go somewhere else. I came home to my regular mechanic, the problem was loose bolts on the intake manifold. They tightened the bolts and the problem was fixed.

Julie, it seems most people don't trust mechanics in the first place, especially when they're out of their home town. When you brought your car into our shop you gave us 2 concerns and not a lot of time to help you resolve them, 1) a rough idle, and 2) a hard start. We were not able to duplicate the rough idle in the time we had but we did duplicate the hard start, which was a bad battery that failed a scientific test (which test you received a report and pictures of on your phone). Once we replaced the battery the hard start issue was gone. We never claimed to repair the rough idle because we were not able to duplicate it, and it sounds like that was being caused by a leaking intake manifold. Regarding your oil dipstick, we sent you a picture of it showing the oil was not in the safe range, meaning it was low. We also sent you a picture of the coolant overflow bottle, which is clearly low. None of your claims above appear to match the evidence I have of your visit. Furthermore, if all we wanted was your money then why did we only charge you for the replacement of the battery (which we know without question was bad). As far as the other recommendations, you are free to use that information however you choose. Clients who actually know us, love us, and appreciate our comprehensive inspections because they help them better maintain their vehicles. It looks like all of this is simply due to the fact that you don't know us and therefore you don't trust us and although we're very sorry for that we still wish you the best!

I needed to pass my emissions test. They said I needed a new purge valve and charcoal canister. I had researched these parts and prices afterwards. The charcoal canister goes for $190 - $560. The purge valve goes for $75 to $110. Labor is included in these prices as they are pretty straight forward procedures. Not only was I charged over $1,500 for these parts with labor, they charged me an extra $175 to get it done before the weekend, only to call me after they gave me a price to tell me they weren't finished calibrating and more things could possibly pop up. Never in my life was I given a price point (let alone one that was extremely high) before the testing was done. Anyway, despite paying the extra $175 the car wasn't done before the weekend. & my check engine light popped back on a week after it was in their shop, as they told me it might. I won't be going back here. High prices and they give estimates halfway through their inspection only to warn you that more things may come up.

John, it sounds like you're very unhappy the vehicle wasn't done when promised and also that the check engine light came back on, and I don't blame you because I'd be upset too. There also seems to have been some terrible miscommunication for which I'm sincerely sorry. As professionals we consider it our responsibility to clearly convey the information you need to make an informed and intelligent decision regarding your vehicle's repair and it appears we failed miserably. I will address each concern in the order you listed it. 1) Online pricing: you can find half-price quotes for anything in this world either online or by phone, this has always been the case and will likely never change. However, the truth is that these are not apples to apples comparisons and if you were to compare the "details" of these quotes with our invoice you'd quickly discover the discrepancies and also the fact that we performed other work on your vehicle that you failed to mention above. 2) Charged an extra $175: we've never charged extra to get work done by the weekend. The $175 was for scientific diagnostic testing. I recommend we listen to the phone call together and figure out how this became so misconstrued. The one thing we may have done right was to let you know the mechanic saw something that could potentially turn the light back on. When we diagnose an electronic or computer control system and find bad parts we can't possibly know with certainly whether everything else in the system is good until we replace the known bad parts and retest, sometimes this involves running through several drive cycles. As a matter of fact, this process is common in all electronic and computer networks and systems. Finally, your decision to not bring the vehicle back because you're upset may not be the best course of action. I would urge you to bring the car back because we're already involved in the diagnosis and repair process and would retest the system for free. Please call me because I believe we can resolve this, thank you! - Richard (Owner) 801-694-7936

Doug’s is the go-to place for auto maintenance and repair. They are reasonable and fair; show integrity and character. We used Doug’s to check out a Hyundai Accent before we made an offer to the owner/seller. They printed off their findings and we were able to negotiate a more reasonable sale considering the issues needing repair. We trust Doug’s and recommend them for your vehicle care!

Hey there Catherine! Thank you for the 5-Star rating and for sharing your experience with us. Supreme customer service and safety are two of our most important values. We're happy to have helped you with the purchase decision of your Hyundai Accent. Please let us know if we can help care for your automotive essentials in any way. Take care!

Took in my Taurus. They finished at the time promised and it ended up costing less than the original quote. Plus, I got a free Lyft home to wait...and one to pick it up. Nice. Place is clean and well kept. Feels like a hospital for cars. Price seemed more than reasonable for the work done.

John, thank you for your review, I really like the "hospital for cars"!

Just wanted you all to be aware of Steve's Automotive specialists in clearfield and the AWFUL Service we recieved. A few weeks ago we brought our Van over to Steve's automotive as we usually use they use them for oil changes, tires and other things that we needed to have done with not only mine and Paul's car but the kids cars also. When we brought in our van we had the check engine light going on and off and 2 service codes come up for crankshaft sensor needs replaced. When we brought it to Steve's the Mexhanic said he knew exactly what the problem was and that he could fix it. After them having it for over a week to get the part in and paying a little over $730 just for us to drive it out of their parking lot when the check engine light came back on. Then when we brang it in the first time we had no issues with any gas smell until after the initial fixing of the car. After speaking with them again and bringing in our Van again to have them look at it the mechanic stated it needs a new computer and that what he thought was the problem must not have been and that is over $1800. Then when we bring up the gas smell it in we had no issues with any gas smell until he told us that that's a separate issue and that would cost us Over $700. We had told him that he said the 1st time that he had the problem fixed which in fact it was not. Then hes adding all these other things and now that cost is way more than what my van is worth. Just wanted everyone to be aware that we Love to support local small businesses but will not be supporting them anymore. They are not trustworthy at all and Try to take advantage of people who do not have much mechanical knowledge. We also reported to the Better Business Bureau and left a review for them on their website

Robyn, we're so sorry for how frustrated this recent visit has made you and the truth is we don't blame you. Over time vehicles have become increasingly more complex and costly to repair and although we can't change that what we can do is more clearly communicate the repair process so you know what to expect, and it looks like we didn't do a great job at that on this visit. You and family have been great clients and we don't want to lose you because of this one incident. It was our responsibility to help you through the repair process and somewhere in that process we lost your confidence. We hope the fact that we refunded all of the labor you paid for this repair proves that we care more about earning your trust and confidence than taking your money. If you'd be willing to give us one more chance we promise we'll do better, thank you!

This is a follow up of a previous review I left for Steve's Automotive. I was very displeased when I got done dealing with them. $1200 repair for the windshield wipers and the front end. Now, a few months later, the windshield wipers are still not working properly and I'm taking my car to another mechanic to get the front end repaired. Neither problem was improved in the least by the $1200 I spent in their shop. I wasted $1200 by taking my car to Steve's automotive.

Kris, thank you so much for allowing me to help you resolve you concerns. If there is anything else I can do to help please don't hesitate to reach out to me! - Richard (Owner) 801-694-7936
