Brought my car in for a loud noise while idling and asked if they'd check out why my electric locks weren't working on 2 of my doors as well, they called to let me know that the noise was from my serpentine tensioner and told me it'd be $800. I expressed my concerns about the cost but they said it was essential, so I gave them the go ahead. They failed to mention that $200 of that quote was to diagnose the issue with my door locks. The locks were a minor inconvenience, so if I had any idea it would be that much, I would have asked them to nix the diagnosis and save myself $200 and them a few hours of their time. I've never had a mechanic fail to communicate how much a diagnostic would cost before going through with it, or have the lack of common sense and decency to assume that most people (especially a young broke grad student who's driving an old car like myself) would not want to go through with an expensive diagnostic for something non-essential. Just overall not impressed with such a poor level of communication and failure to break down the cost of all the work they were quoting me for until after I was billed.

Kelsey, we work very hard to avoid miscommunication but the simple truth is that sometimes it still happens. Fixed my AC same day and was reasonable on price. Definitely recommend. My car (subaru sti) is fairly modified as well and they had no issues navigating the repairs. Service: A/C installation & repair

I took my car here and Chad worked so hard to figure out what was wrong with my Jeep. He was very patient even though it was not an easy find or fix. I really appreciated all the time he spent to make my car run correctly and feel safe again. It drives so much better! It feels like it did when I bought it. My steering wheel and pedals aren’t loose anymore and it feels very secure. I would highly recommend Chad and this business! Services: Electrical, Wheel alignment, Steering & suspension repair, Brakes

Steve's replaced all 6 coil packs on 4/12/21. By the time we got to Montana on 5/18/21, cylinders 2 and 5 had burned out. We had Bernie (the local mechanic in Montana) replace those 2, then 7/29, 3 and 6 burned out. Bernie never touched 3 and 6. Going to Montana and back caused 4/6 coils that Steve's installed to burn out. Any parts should last longer than a simple road trip. It's evident that 4 out of 6 coils were not up to a standard they should have been. When we had the ones Steve's replaced we kept them and you can smell the electrical fire on them. The remaining two also smelled like electrical fire. They were on their last legs. Steve's also replaced the spark plugs with Ford brand probably knowing that the truck would never run without Ford brand spark plugs, this causes us, and the other mechanics we've spoken with, to believe they knew the parts they should have been using, and instead opted for a cheaper version so we would have the issue again and have to come back for more fixes. I misspoke about the dealership. On 7/29, We went to some family friends, who used to work for a Ford dealership. They looked up the coils Steve's used and told us they only costed a fraction of what Steve's charged, and they are not good parts. Our family friends were able to get us Ford brand coils with a warranty so if this happens again the issue can be resolved. Furthermore Some of the tests they ran were not needed. Ie. oil leak dye test BG transmission flush Cooling system flush The issue was the spark plugs and coils so why did we need the tests above? If you scan the system you get the code P030x for a specific cylinder misfire. If they scanned they would have seen what the issue was right away. There was no need for all the extra testing. When we got the system scanned at jiffy lube before we took it to Steve's it was just giving the spark plug and coil issue code. There weren't any extra issues. Because Bernie in Montana scanned the system he got the code and was able to fix the issue quickly instead of taking a week like Steve's did. With Bernie's opinion, and our family friends opinion being the same that we did not need the extra testing and the issue was just the spark plugs and coils. With the parts being cheep. I will never recommend Steve's automotive.
