These guys are very thorough and they do good work. They send you detailed reports of what they’re working on at every stage and they’ll get your approval before they start. They keep you updated through the process so you know what they’re doing. And their mechanic work is solid. BUT know that they will try to find any reason to repair or replace any slightly worn part. The amount of times I heard “it’s about time to replace x part” that cost me $1000 and wasn’t totally necessary—uff. I went in with a check engine light and came out with a $4,000 bill for a whole slew of preventative services and cleanings. That’s a semester of college for me. Luckily, I talked to my friend who’s a mechanic and then to them and we were able to negotiate down and cut a lot of the extra stuff—just be ready to do this when you walk in the door. If you want your car to be at peak performance and ready to zip around a racetrack or something, then these guys are great for you. If you’re just a student or looking for a simple fix, you need to stay alert and know what’s necessary and what’s not. So 3 stars for the quality work, thoroughness, and good communication, but -2 for high $$$ and major upselling.

It sounds like we failed in our goal of providing great communication and helping you prioritize, since you mentioned you only gave us 3 stars for that. If we had communicated clearly you wouldn't have had any need to talk to another mechanic and you wouldn't have felt like we were trying to 'upsell' you. Our job is to inform you regarding what your vehicle needs to be safe and reliable and it's 100% your job to decide how much you want to spend, if anything. We don't believe in high pressure techniques since they ruin relationships, and our goal is to have great relationships with our clients. Suburban Radiator decided to leak. They got us in and let us park camper in lot while we unexpectedly toured town with their loaner. Next day we were on our way as new radiator not in town

I love this place! I have been taking my Honda Accord to the dealership for all scheduled maintenance ever since I bought it in 2008. But they have become so busy and impersonal I couldn't even get through to make an appointment when I called. So I thought I would try Steve's Automotive since it popped up on my Google search and was highly recommended. I am so glad I did! Not only were Ray and Chris extremely honest, sincere and friendly, the maintenance technician was very thorough and on point. Thank you so much! I now will take my car and any future vehicles to Steve's.

I had an appointment this morning at Steve's Automotive Specialists in Orem that I made last week, to have their $10 emissions special done on my truck. Ray asked if I would like a complimentary safety inspection. I said no I don't have the time right now. After taking my keys and getting information Ray then told me that I would need to have the safety inspection or the test will be the regular price and not the $10 special. I then asked Ray you mean to get the $10 emissions test I need to have your complimentary safety inspection, Ray said yes. I said well I guess you've lost a customer and Ray said I don't think I ever had a customer I'm losing money at $10. I left and went to Autobahn in Orem where they have always treated me right. I told them about my experience at Steve's Automotive Specialists and Autobahn was shocked with Steves poor customer service and gave me a discount on my emissions test, thanks Autobahn. Note Ray has since called and offered an apology on my voicemail and even offered a free emissions test without a safety inspection. Sorry a little too late.

David, I'm sincerely sorry you didn't get your $10 emissions test for which you had set an appointment, especially given the fact that the complimentary inspection is not required (a point I clarified with Ray immediately after learning of this incident). Our goal is to provide our clients with safe and reliable transportation and since State safety inspections are no longer required we do offer a complimentary inspection with every emissions test. It seems obvious Ray was a little overzealous on this point, however, not long after you left he realized his mistake and he called you in an attempt to make it right. In my experience with people I've found one of the most difficult things for us to do is to admit when we're wrong. Today, Ray demonstrated the courage and humility to do this. We took our car in for a regular oil change and we were blown away. Not only were we able to use a coupon for a discount, but they also did a thorough inspection. I've never experienced an auto shop going above and beyond like they do here! Their inspection allowed us to get ahead of the game and know everything going on with our vehicle, and how to best take care of and maintain it. They also have a very user-friendly system to show photos and tell us their recommendations for repairs. There's nothing better than having someone to help you be aware of and take care of something before it becomes a problem. They have my trust and I will only go to Steve's from now on. We saw this shop come into my parents neighborhood and it looked so clean and professional from driving by. My moms air conditioning stopped working in the middle of August. I called in the morning, dropped off the car and was ever so pleased with the service. I felt informed throughout the process and felt that we were treated fairly and appreciated. Its hard to find a reliable and honest shop but these guys are great! We used to travel from Pleasant Grove all the way up to their Sandy location every time because we loved their service so much. I'm so glad they now have a location in Orem. They almost always have some kind of a deal/discount going on to save us money and they thoroughly check the car out and let me know what really needs to be done or what can wait. I am extremely disappointed and angry with the way Steve's Automotive handled my son's Nissan Murano recently. They basically charged him what amounted to $1,200 for a diagnostic to tell him he needed a new engine, a total of $6,000. I took his car to the dealership where we originally bought it for a second opinion. They diagnosed a completely different problem and fixed it for less than what Steve's charged just to tell us it was going to need a new engine. Their misdiagnosis is simply unacceptable and ridiculous. I would ask for a FULL refund if I thought there was any way that would happen, but they've already proved to be incompetent and dishonest. They will NEVER get any more of our business and EVERYONE I come in contact with -- family, friends and neighbors -- will hear our story and steer clear of them. Well done. Service: Engine repair

We document the repair and diagnostic procedures we perform and we have scientific evidence to prove and support our conclusions as well as the recommendations we made. You've made some derogatory comments about us and I'd expect that you wouldn't do so unless you could prove them. So, prove to me that what you're claiming is true and I will gladly refund the entire amount you paid us to perform the repairs and diagnostic procedures on your son's vehicle, however, if you can't prove it then I would expect an apology and respectfully ask you to update your review to reflect the facts.
