Got my car back on the road, owner helped me out personally. Got my ac done, made a pretty freaky noise afterwards and they got it all sorted out

Doug generously assessed my Honda Insight for damage after I backed it off of a tow dolly without extending the dolly ramps. He didn't try to sell me any services or inflate the damage to my car, and when I offered to pay for the diagnostic he declined. Rare to find such integrity and generosity in the auto repair field. Would highly recommend.

They said that they would diagnose my a/c system to see why my (relatively new) compressor clutch wasn't engaging. After 1-1/2 hours they told me that my system was fully charged but my compressor clutch wasn't engaging (maybe 15 minutes of work...tops). Then they told me that it would have cost $175 to further investigate? I talked to a former mechanic friend and he gave me three quick test to do. Relay, pressure switch, and condenser fan. Why didn't they do those checks in that same time?

Mark, it sounds like there was some miscommunication based on your comments. We always start with a free preliminary inspection to gather enough information to know how to proceed, this is not a diagnosis, it's a 'preliminary inspection'. It seems reasonable to assume you understand that as professional mechanics we charge for our time, otherwise we wouldn't be in business. This appears to be a misunderstanding regarding your expectations of what our free preliminary inspection would provide you. If you are a first time buyer and thinking of going here, our opinion is you should run as fast as you can the opposite way. "Let the buyer beware" needs to be also "inquire here and we'll figure out a way to take advantage". We were told 5 times there would be no charge for towing for them to look at the car. When they gave us just under an $1,000 car estimate repair price, we couldn't afford that. We went to get the car and NOW it was not free towing. They played a "recorded message" where they say you have to pay $200 repair before the towing is free. Didn't hear that or remember hearing that when talking with them. Still we had asked over and over was the towing free. Told yes over and over. (Was their "recorded" call edited? Why weren't we told this EVERY time we asked.). We will need to get the car fixed at some point. Won't be with them. Our opinion is go elsewhere. Also, we had to repeatedly ask for our car key back after paying them the towing charge in protest. Why didn't they want to return the key? Go elsewhere ... .

Sarah, it seems you're very upset about having to pay the tow bill and that you didn't hear the advisor when he expained how our free towing works and I'm very sorry for the resulting confusion. The simple fact is that we do offer new clients free towing when the repair is $200 or more and our existing clients enjoy free roadside assistance as part of our service. I'll never go anywhere else. I've had auto experience for 15 years now and Steve's does the best with cars. They make sure everything gets done how you want it and better. Super courteous staff, all very very friendly people. Truly go it of their way to make your experience the best. Great pricing. Absolutely beats everyone in the valley. I will go here for future oil changes and any repairs I need. Came here to get the window in my Lexus fixed. Long story short, I needed a whole new window with all the works and they did it for me within 3 hours which included a window chase-down from one end of the valley to the other. Should have cost well into the $1000's but paid significantly less than that . They work with you and your budget and again, I love em. Madie is super helpful and very very resourceful. All the guys in the team will not disappoint.

Super friendly and helpful. I appreciate that they present all the options and allow the customer to decide what they would like to do in regards to car repairs, etc. I have never felt pushed into doing something I didn't want to do.
