Great price for an oil change. They were at a good speed for being so busy. They tried to charge me $500 to fix my bearing. Went to my mechanic and it was only $260

It looks like this was your 1st visit with us Andrew, so thank you for coming in and also for your feedback. Regarding the price of the bearing you mentioned I see that our estimate was $471.42, that's a difference of $211.42. Without any further information that certainly appears to be way out of line, however, that quote was for the highest quality replacement part available and comes with a lifetime warranty. It seems based on your comment that you may not have been aware of that fact nor that we could have provided the same economical option your mechanic did. We believe in building relationships of trust with our clients and providing them with the information they need to confidently make decisions involving the repair and maintenance of their vehicles. They are knowledgeable. Cetainly more expensive then other places and not fast either. They also forgot to connect my vacuum line for my ac blower when they worked on my van. Took me about 20 minute's to fix it. Vs taking it back in. Shop has techs not mechanics. If you don't know the difference this place is for you.

Thanks for coming in Dustin, I am very sorry about the vacuum line, of course you know we would have taken care of that for you. Please let me know if there's anything I can do! - Richard (Owner) 801-694-7936

Would not recommend this auto shop to anyone. Prices are a joke! needed to have my cars injectors replaced, it was going to cost $1500! To replace 6 injectors?!? They were gonna rip me off! No way it was going to be that much! I had another shop fix it for way less. This shop needs to re think there prices.

Dobitz, it sounds like you believe that just because something costs less it's better, and anything that costs more is a rip off. If you can prove to me that you had the same quality parts installed with the same warranty and benefits that our shop offered then I will give you $100 cash for the trouble. I've learned in my experience that nearly 100% of the time when anything is substantially less, there is a very cogent reason, please call me! Richard (Owner) 801-694-7936

I took my vehicle in for a simple oil change and a slow leak in my tire. They performed the vehicle inspection, checked the transmission and differential fluids. I picked up my car after they told me it was ready and drove to a dinner. After dinner, I came out to a massive oil spill under my vehicle and oil ALL over the back of my car from the wind blowing oil up onto the back of my car at freeway speeds. I looked under and quickly noticed they LEFT OUT THE PLUG on my rear-differential. By this time on Friday, they were closed for Memorial Day weekend. I could not drive my car the entire weekend plus the holiday and had to get a ride home. I texted, called, and left a voicemail for Steve’s Automotive immediately on Friday evening and never heard back… I had to call in again to get a response the following week! This was already over 4 days without being able to drive my car. The manager arranged for a tow truck to bring the car back in, fill the fluid, and get a new plug. Add on an additional day without my car, now 5 days, and only excuses about the tech who worked on the car from the manager. I am now driving for 3 days and realize the slow tire leak that I originally took my vehicle in for is still leaking, and I have to take my car back a third time. TO TOP IT OFF, when I went in to tell them I still had the original tire leak they failed to repair and now 6 days without my vehicle, the front desk attendant literally tells me “I guess that’s the way it goes”. That is not “the way it goes”! Again only an excuse about the tech who worked on the car. They claim "urgent" on everything from replacing my battery which they couldn’t back up when I asked what the Cold Cranking Amps my battery is supposed to be measuring to justify the CCA they measured as bad.; or when they told me I needed a carbon-cleaning for my engine which is usually justified by doing a boroscoping of the cylinder, which they didn’t do, they just recommend it as “Urgent” with nothing to back it up; or telling me I needed to replace my drive belt without doing a groove test, or pushing brakes that had plenty of life left, or with many others that they obviously put on “Urgent” to scare patrons into agreeing to the repair. They also tried charging me $70 labor just to change a cabin filter, which I did myself in under 3 minutes! Be wary of what they recommend and read your owner’s manual to know what your particular vehicle needs for preventative maintenance. I’ll tell you briefly about my wife’s experience taking her car in for an oil change. When she got her car back at the end of the day she drove out to Sandy (I was not there). While she was out there, the technicians called her and say “I think we left a tool on your car, we need to get it back”. She said she was busy and couldn’t leave right then, so the technician drove out to Sandy to get the tool from under the hood and told her she needed to drive back to the shop immediately. Which was in a blizzard. When she pulled out to drive back to the shop there was a HUGE oil spot under her car and a stream she could see from where she was driving. I don't even want to imagine what else they could have screwed up. They got the tools off the car and filled her engine oil and let her go on her way. They said they would send a gift card in the mail, but we never receive one… They asked us to give them a second chance after my wife’s issue and we did, now 3 chances. Not once offering any kind of reimbursement or compensation to me for lost time, only excuses, and never following through with the card for my wife. We tried to give the benefit of the doubt, but this is just ridiculous. UPDATE: The owner, Richard, is working to resolve the issues we have had with a refund and credit. We are reticent to try again, but will likely give them another chance due to convenience of location and Richard's efforts to make things right. We appreciate his support. I am updating the review to 3 stars (from 1) until we can confirm service has improved and deserves more...

As I researched your concerns I discovered it was the same mechanic who worked on both your vehicles and I also learned that our manager fired him the very day we learned of the 2nd incident involving your truck. Please accept my sincere apology for any inconvenience you experienced as I agree with you that what happened was absolutely unacceptable. Please call me at 801-694-7936 and let's discuss how we can make things right for you. I look forward to speaking with you soon! - Richard (Owner)

I'm a mechanic for a living so I don't like paying other people to work on my car. But I was on a road trip through town when I needed some work done. They got me squared away real quick. Seems like a straight forward and honest shop. Reasonably priced.

Thank you Evan, we're so glad we could help and hope the rest of your road trip was fantastic!

I will never return to Steve’s Automotive. The location is convenient so we decided to try them out. I took my car in for a simple oil change and emissions in January. After they were done I picked up my car and drove out to Sandy. I received a call from Steve’s that they had left a part in my car (?) and when I told them I couldn’t drive back right then (it was a blizzard) they offered to drive to Sandy to retrieve the part. When the mechanic arrived to get the part he noticed there was a huge puddle of oil underneath my car and said that they must not have put the cap on correctly so I was leaking oil. He said I had to drive back to the shop immediately. I then drove all the way back to Millcreek in a blizzard while my car was leaking oil (you could see the trail of oil wherever I drove). They replaced the cap and apologized and said they’d send me a gift card in the mail, which they never did. My husband decided to give them a second chance and they did the exact same thing to his car. They left the cap off the differential and his car leaked oil everywhere and had to be towed back to Steve’s Automotive. You can read more details in his review. Needless to say we will never go back and I would not recommend taking your car there. *UPDATE: The owner, Richard, is working to resolve the issues we have had with a refund and credit. I had some work done on my car here. They were quick and had good communication. However, they ended up charging a lot more than I expected so I called around. They charged me $400 more than their competitors down the road quoted. Because they already had my car pulled apart I just let them do the work even though it was much more expensive. After I got my car back, it continue to have the same issue. At this point I returned with my vehicle and they became avoidant. I was told my vehicle was just fine until I took a video of it running poorly and finally had a mechanic look at my car again. Then they told me that I would need to replace all four of my catalytic converter’s and they quoted me at about $2700 in addition to my original $950 dollar bill they had charged... So I took it down the road to chucks Automotive. They did two of the catalytic converter’s for just over $1200 and my car is running well again.

Jake, it sounds like your vehicle needed a lot of work and I'm sorry it wasn't a simple and less expensive repair. As you know, we don't get to choose what breaks on a vehicle nor how complex the diagnostic process is, we simply investigate and report what we find. It sounds like you had a secondary issue that was intermittent but that we were eventually able to correctly diagnose it. Regarding the price of repairs, you can buy or fix just about anything for less money if you use lower quality parts, don't replace all the recommended components, accept a lower warranty, etc. For example, a Honda vehicle will cost nearly double that of a Kia or Hyundai and people gladly pay the difference because they understand the higher quality they're receiving for the extra money. I suppose there are some who don't see the value and would say that a Honda is simply overpriced. The good news is that whether it's a new vehicle or a repair we all can choose for ourselves which scenario makes the most sense for us and fits our budget. Please call me as I would like to discuss this with you further and resolve what appears to be a misunderstanding, thank you! - Richard (Owner) 801-694-7936

At first I was disappointed with the service I got at Expertec. But the employees there went out of their way to make sure all issues were resolved and that I was happy with the service I received. Great customer service.

Hi Hunter, We are so very sorry you had a bad experience with our services. We pride ourselves in trying to give the best customer service in the industry, hence the (free) loaner car. I am very sorry the AC did not work. We try and check our loaner cars before they go out to make sure they are safe and comfortable. We are so sorry the ac did not work. We will have the ac repaired in that vehicle immediately. We also apologize for the extended repair time. We had a technician take a unexpected leave and the repair was through a holiday so between the holiday and the unexpected leave we did have a much longer repair time than expected, for that we are very sorry. If there is any way we can make it up to you, we would be happy to do so. We are very grateful for your business and trusting us to give you a reliable and long lasting repair.
