I decided to take my car to Steve's Automotive after using Costco's automotive repair plan. The plan offers a 15% discount a select businesses who agree to prove themselves trustworthy. This sounded good to me. Yet I was still skeptical. I had tried out the Costco discount because I had taken my car to 3 other shops. Each diagnosing my 2003 Toyota Camry with $170K miles various repairs needed. (hum…I have had this car inspected every 6 months I thought hum….). A car I have owned since the odometer reading was 28 miles. I have babied this car and knew there was no way everything these jokers were saying was wrong with my car couldn’t possibly be wrong. It is scary to take your car to a shop not knowing if they are going to recommend repairs that are not needed. Or replace your good parts with parts from another car and putting your parts onto something else or resell parts the parts. I really hate is when I pay about $1000 for a repair that in no way fixes the problem and as drive away from the repair shop you notice an even greater issues have arisen. After 3 other shops, I tried out Steve’s because it is Gephardt approved and it was part of the Costco automobile repair program. I hoped that those two facts would pay off. It paid off. They saved me a lot of money by not charging me for a repair I didn’t need. Thanks Guys! Oh, about the shop and the personnel. All the men I worked with from Steve’s Auto were professional, yet relaxed and very happy in their jobs. You could tell this was a fun place to work. The men were also good sports and allowed me to take some pictures of them. The shop was clean and the desks were neat and organized. There weren’t handprints from used oil on any of the walls or doors. It also didn’t have that repair shop smell. They also set up uber drivers to take me to and from any location I requested free of charge. That is great because this was the first time, I used uber. Not a bad service but remember to tip. This is Steve’s Automotive is good in my book. I’ll take my car back as needed.

My car started stalling on the freeway and I had to have it towed to Steve's Automotive. They did a lot of testing before they found a leaf in the wrong place. In the meantime they gave me an extensive report on work my car could use. I was happy with the results and would go there again.

Thanks for your Review Lily!

This entire team is so kind, efficient, and accommodating. I highly recommend using their services! As a young female, the car world can be full of misogynistic man-splaners, but that was absolutely not the case here. They took time to explain all of my many many repairs and went over the best options in detail every time. I’ll be sending all of my friends here too!

Thanks for your review Jaleigh! We appreciate your recommendation :)

Do NOT go here! my family went here to have her tires checked and they tried to tell her she needed 2 new tires for $400!! they even took her tires off before telling her she needed them like they were planning on selling her tires. they weren't happy when she told them no and tried to insist that she had to get these tires. she left and went to Les Schwab and they fixed the small leak in her tires and told her she definitely didn't need new tires. They only care about making sales! they will lie and tell you that you need something when you really don't.

I walked in at 3:30 pm on a Friday when they closed at 5 pm and weren’t open on the weekends, but they were still able to get my check engine light diagnosed and fixed before they closed. I will probably take all my cars to them from now on.

Thanks for your review Bo! We are happy we could get things fixed quickly and we would be honored to take care of all your auto service needs :)

I will never come here again! I came here a year ago to have them fix my tire pressure sensor. At first they explained they wanted to run a diagnostic test cause they "didn't want to just throw parts at the car" and I thought that was nice of them. A few hours later they called and said they needed to do further testing to make 100% sure it's the Tire Pressure Sensor and it'll be $199 (which they didn't mention in the beginning). They said it's rare they have to run this full diagnostic but in my case, they have to run it to make sure. I told them I just wanted to get the Tire Pressure Sensor replaced but he insisted that we do a full diagnostic just in case. I ended paying for it. They listed a couple other things wrong with my car but in the end, it was the Tire Pressure Sensor, so I basically paid the $199 when I didn't need to. Today I went to Steves to get my Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor replaced and they said they'd like to run a diagnostic test on it to make sure that was the issue. I wasn't suprised when I received the call an hour later that they "needed to run further testing" and wanted to charge me the $199. That's only for "testing", than another $270 to replace my Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor. I ended up picking up my car and calling another place right up the street that did everything for $170, which included a basic diagnostic that clearly shows it's the sensor. Don't fall for their $199 for "further diagnostic testing" trick! They will tell you a million things wrong with your car and try to upsale you on things you don't even need (including the full diagnostic test). Steve's auto prices are alot higher than other shops (call around and you'll see) and other mechanics would run a full diagnostic test just to make sure they're fixing what needs to be fixed at no additional costs! I ended up going to Emission Time up the street 90th and state in Sandy and paid $170 out the door!!

Marcus, I'm sorry you don't feel there's any value in our recommendations or scientific testing, for most of our clients that's the very reason they come to us. If a mechanic doesn't charge you for diagnostic testing then most likely they're not really doing any. Anyone with a computer and internet connection can Google any car symptom and gets tons of suggestions and that's exactly what most unskilled mechanics do when they offer you "Free" testing, you really are just rolling the dice. If I could tell you all the stories of which I have personal experience with clients over the years who came to me after another shop or dealership had replaced hundreds of dollars and in some cases over a thousand dollars in parts that didn't fix their problem, then you might begin to understand our professional approach. However, I respect your right to do what you think is best for you and we have no hard feelings and wish you the best. - Richard (Owner) 801-694-7936
