READ THIS REVIEW- *Original Post* My friend and I took 3 cars to this shop. They recommended $2-3k of work on each car. They told me my truck’s ball joint was so bad it wouldn't pass a state safety inspection, even though it only had 65K miles on it. They managed to scare me so I took their report for my truck to two other mechanic shops and they both assured me my truck needed $0 worth of work, besides brakes, even though I was ready to pay at either. I insisted they both look carefully at the ball joints, and they both looked and insisted no work was need. When Steve's mechanic tells me I need to pay thousands of $$$ and two other shops look at his notes and insist, at their own loss of potential work, there is no problem there is NO WAY I am every going back to this shop. But I'll let you draw your own conclusions... At best, Steve's is aggressive with their recommendations and at worst they are a shady establishment. Either way, their marketing and salesmanship is exceptional for a mechanic shop. Don't let the high tech reports, timely texts, squeaky clean organization trick you into trusting them. If anyone has been to Steve's and subsequently had a second opinion which resulted in a cheaper solution (or no work needed) please like this post so people know that Steve's is being too aggressive with their work. ***Update #2*** Richard, I appreciate the offer. Your shop has the most professional appearance I've ever seen - and I used to work in a garage. However, while weighing your offer, I am now comparing the 68 point inspection you performed on my Ranger August 8, 2017 and the 68 point inspection on April 19, 2018. The first inspection has 7 items that did not pass your inspection. After no maintenance on my part, 5 of these 7 points mysteriously passed the subsequent report... The fact you have literally told me multiple times I should pay for work and then told me the work is not needed has further decreased my confidence in your shop. In addition to your shop appearing to be more aggressive than 2 other shops in recommending repairs, your shop has not been consistent in what they have recommended to me! This is a glaring lack of consistency. Seeing the difference in opinion between your shop and 2 other shops AND the difference in opinion between your own reports I will have to politely decline your offer to look again at my vehicle. I will recommend this shop only to people who want aggressive and inconsistent recommendations. Your business model may work for clientele who have money, are impressed with your tech/soft skills and are not willing to take the time to really investigate your aggressive recommendations, but I am willing to bet if people take your reports to other mechanics they will be surprised at how much money they can save. Again, I encourage other people to like this post if they have had a similar experience. ***Update #3*** Richard, your money-back challenge doesn't make sense for me to accept. I have 100% confidence that you can find stuff in my car you would recommend needs repairs. A large part of my argument above is your shop is too aggressive with your recommendations. A car with 70k miles is going to show wear on all it's parts and all parts would be better if repaired or replaced. However, I would entertain accepting your quality assurance challenge if you can invalidate my second complaint which is your shop does not provide consistent inspections. On my first inspection, there were 7 items that did not pass inspection. On the second inspection, 5 of these 7 no longer appeared on your report. If you are confident in your consistent of quality inspections/recommendations I challenge you to inspect these 5 items again and if any of the 5 don't get a green light then I would accept the same compensation for being incorrectly advised by your shop. If any of the 5 get another green light I would love a written explanation of why "[you] recommended anything [my] vehicle doesn't need."
Shelby, your vehicle is still all the evidence we need to prove what it really needs or doesn't need. Whether or not you have money to maintain your vehicle doesn't change what the vehicle needs to be properly maintained. Furthermore, just like you, all of our clients are free to choose what work they want to have done, if any. Please call me at 801-694-7936 and we'll schedule a time to look at your vehicle together. As you mentioned, we create detailed reports of each vehicle's visit with pictures and we record all of our phone calls, so determining the truth of what was recommended and why will be very easy. If it's true that we recommended anything your vehicle doesn't need I will refund the total amount you have ever spent with our company, a total of $92.26, and give you an additional $100 simply for taking the time! - Richard (Owner)
