They said that they would diagnose my a/c system to see why my (relatively new) compressor clutch wasn't engaging. After 1-1/2 hours they told me that my system was fully charged but my compressor clutch wasn't engaging (maybe 15 minutes of work...tops). Then they told me that it would have cost $175 to further investigate? I talked to a former mechanic friend and he gave me three quick test to do. Relay, pressure switch, and condenser fan. Why didn't they do those checks in that same time?

Mark, it sounds like there was some miscommunication based on your comments. We always start with a free preliminary inspection to gather enough information to know how to proceed, this is not a diagnosis, it's a 'preliminary inspection'. It seems reasonable to assume you understand that as professional mechanics we charge for our time, otherwise we wouldn't be in business. If you have any issues and Richard, one of the owners, asks you to call him, do it. He will make sure that the issue is resolved. Steve's did some warranty work on the rear struts of my 2004 Subaru Outback. I took it in 3 times. All three times, they put the same Monroe struts. I was not satisfied with these struts since my car was very soft still and they would blow out every couple of months. Richard found out about this and made sure that they full-fulled the warranty on the struts by replacing them with KYB struts. They are much stiffer and my car now rides like a champ. Steve's Automotive makes sure that you are satisfied with their. It did take some time for me that is why it's 4 stars instead of 5 but they did take care of the issues.

Arrived at 7:30 right when they opened for an oil change. Apparently you have to make an appointment and they only do oil changes until 2pm everyday. This makes it very inconvenient for people who work all day. Other places have you in and out within 30 minutes, and it doesnt matter when you arrive.

Jenna, I'm very sorry we don't offer the traditional "quick lube oil change" it seems you wanted. We offer a maintenance service (which of course includes an oil change) that helps our clients reduce their overall operating costs up to 50% over time, and that quality of service simply can't be done in 30 minutes or less. I received a coupon for an oil change by mail. Even though I tried to decline, they insisted on doing a comprehensive inspection along with the oil change. I waited in the lobby for 45 min before a shuttle arrived, and it was several hours later until the car was finished. The only urgent items besides oil were replacing the air & cabin filters, which I do myself. Driving off the lot, the motor was loud. After opening the hood, I discovered their technicians had failed to reattach the air intake tube from the filter housing. They also left 2 of the 4 clips on the housing unattached. Later, when I changed the cabin filter, I discovered they had left the housing unclipped and unsealed. I talked to the manager who was apologetic and assured me this wasn't the way they do business. He promised to have a stern talking-to with his techs. I wasn't looking for it, but he never offered a refund, gift certificate, or anything to make it up to me. I just told him an apology and promise to do better would suffice. Besides, I wouldn't want them near my car again. It was sloppy work and could have hurt my car if I hadn't double-checked their work.

John, I'm truly sorry for the trouble regarding the air filters. Had you immediately brought the vehicle back to the shop we would have corrected the issue and beyond just apologizing we would have offered to do whatever it would take to make things right. It appears you chose to correct the issue yourself and when you called us to discuss your concerns you declined our offer for any further reconciliation saying an apology was enough, however, it would seem by your 1 star review that it wasn't enough.
