Steves Surprise Just so were clear, I havent had many pleasant experiences with mechanics throughout the years so we are probably alike in that way. I am in the service industry so I do understand their plight a little bit more than most. However, recently my car broke down and Steves Automotive Specialist in Sandy was really my only option (closest mechanics to broken down vehicle). They were able to get me right in and diagnosed the problem within hours and this is with a full shop and cars waiting to get worked on all around the building. This told me one of two things, that people were lining up to have these guys work on cars or that they are really slow. It was not the latter. They soon after gave me an estimate that obviously ALWAYS seems high. However after checking with a mechanic friend of mine was actually quite reasonable. I told them to proceed. It was a big job so it took a few days but after they had finished it still wasnt working right. They dug deeper until figuring out that I would need to spend more than the car was worth in order for it to run correctly. I told them to stop and I would have it towed. They gave me the bill and I said woah,woah, woah! Im not paying for a car that doesnt work! Ridiculous! They quickly agreed and asked if they could have it for a couple more days to see if there was any other way to get it running. Upon further inspection, they were optimistic that with another $3000 they could have it fixed on top of $2700 I had already spent. I said nah, Im good. Thats just too much! They ended up wanting a happy customer more than money which is great customer service and good business! They did the second half of the job for wholesale parts pricing. I basically received a rebuilt engine for $3500 and my car that has 180k miles has never run better! Their work is as good as youll find in Utah and they are a local company with local mechanics who really care about what they do. They have changed my opinion of mechanics and given me a GO TO automotive repair shop for generations to come
